Our Goals

The FUSION CITY project, in the form of a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, will be created in order to support a sustainable economic recovery and advancement of Sheffield’s business, hospitality, cultural, tourism, and retail sectors, to help the communities within the Sheffield City Region (SCR) come out of the Covid-19 period stronger together, prepared for a new and exciting future.

Politically agnostic and with the support of organisations of varying sizes and sectors, the FUSION CITY project will work towards a safe and strong economic recovery of the City and the SCR, ensuring Sheffield's ongoing viability as a leading UK city, and propel it forward as both a major centre of historical interest and a contemporary centre of scientific, cultural,
artistic, touristic, environmental, educational and business excellence.

The FUSION CITY project is created in the belief that by harnessing business assets – such as research, insight, international connections, know-how, employee base, advocacy, marketing power and leadership – we can drive positive change.

The FUSION CITY project will operate as a campaigning force with hundreds of members across all business sectors, combined with thousands of individuals across the population, together uniquely placed and combined to champion both the region and City of Sheffield.

With assistance from its business partners and involved citizens, the FUSION CITY project
will draw attention to, and help fund, its social goals through several possible high-profile
projects. Initial ideas include:
• “Fusion City Radio” – a local internet radio station with a remit to broadcast content
involving heritage-based topics, culture, tourism, and social issues
• Community involvement in assisting the City of Sheffield in an application to become
a World Heritage Site
• A major music concert involving some of Sheffield's world-renowned celebrity
musicians to help fund the City's World Heritage Site application
• Production of a video documentary to highlight the many features making Sheffield a
great place to live, work and visit
• A photography competition open to all to showcase the City's many contemporary
assets – from rural and urban beauty to its former and contemporary industrial might

The City of Sheffield requires bespoke recovery policies including both broad systemic and carefully targeted sectoral support necessary for both the city centre and the districts to thrive in the future.

We propose to identify practical business-led solutions, advocate for these changes and push to see them implemented. We will drive change, raise awareness, serve members, and celebrate Sheffield.

We intend to cultivate and continually strengthen an extensive network of the sort of
people needed to achieve this change – from business collectives, local authorities, trade associations, business leaders and experts, to journalists, politicians and policymakers at all levels.

Our activities aim to deliver short-term quick wins with longer-term, large scale solutions. We recognise we must also be agile, scanning the horizon to identify and predict change, reacting as required to deliver our vision, and effectively responding to developments that affect the Sheffield region.

We will engage business and other leaders in Sheffield's challenges and opportunities,using their insights and expertise to help shape our thinking and, where appropriate, support delivery.

Business in Sheffield is a force for good – creating jobs, paying taxes and driving economic growth. At this time, Sheffield's businesses need support to survive through the final stages of the pandemic and to assist recovery.

Through the FUSION CITY network we intend to provide our partners and their associated members with several business support initiatives: from funded marketing campaigns to business training at all levels, and technology solutions to support their growth.

We will work with local businesses to identify their needs and help source the relevant solutions in an integrated partnership.

Increasing consumer confidence to return to central Sheffield is of paramount importance to the success of the city region and its businesses. Together with our media partners, the FUSION CITY project will launch national, regional and local campaigns to encourage visitors to adopt Sheffield as a must-visit location.

We will continue to adapt and grow our campaigns based on timely data and unique insight to stimulate the footfall and visitors the region and its businesses require.
The FUSION CITY project will continue to remain dynamic, both through progressing
existing work and commencing new activities to ensure the sustainable recovery of the region's economy.
