The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District

AMID is a district dedicated to cutting-edge manufacturing and is the UK’s largest research-led advanced manufacturing cluster.

The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District is a research-led Advanced Manufacturing cluster situated along  South Yorkshire's Sheffield-Rotherham corridor, and is likely to become of ever-increasing world-wide importance.
The District links together Sheffield Business Park and nearby Rotherham’s Advanced Manufacturing Park.
It is significantly driven by the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) and a growing number of advanced manufacturing and technology firms including Rolls Royce, Tata, Outokumpu and Forgemasters. It is an area where collaborative research is to the fore.
Other investors include McLaren, Boeing (where AMID is home to its first European production facility), Nikken, Metalysis, PES Performance, MetLase, Iceotope, Dormer, Sandvik, Atkins Global, ITM Power, and PCM.
It is also home to three new University of Sheffield research centres – the Royce Translational Centre (RTC), the Laboratory for Verification and Validation (LVV), and the Integrated Civil and Infrastructure Research Centre (ICAIR) – whose remit is to use their research capabilities to reduce manufacturing costs and lead times to dramatically transform industrial processes.
