The Lodge care home on Worksop Road in Swallownest is highly-rated by the families of previous residents. Based in a bungalow, it has six bedrooms, a dining kitchen, two lounges and an activity room, with accessible ensuite wet-rooms for every bedroom. The Lodge is staffed by a specialist team, specially trained for the care of adults with learning disabilities and autism. They are part of Exemplar Health Care, a provider who own and manage over 30 homes across the UK. This care home is based around supporting and encouraging their residents to be as happy and independent as possible, with care and activity plans built around individual needs.They also place importance on proper nutrition and varied, interesting food that caters to individual preferences and dietary requirements.
Willowbeck care home, on Holywell Road (close to Meadowhall Shopping Centre), is another home owned by Exemplar Health Care. This care home has seven different units, each tailored to the unique needs of residents. The Ladybower Unit has specialist care for those with brain injuries and neurodisability, and related conditions. The Torside Unit provides specialist support for those with complex physical needs; the Rivelin Unit is an all-male unit providing care for those with mental illnesses; the Howden Unit is a mental illness unit for both men and women; the Abberton Unit also provides mental health care and has 8 beds available; the Derwent Unit provides care for those with ‘challenging’ needs and complex behaviour issues; and, finally, the Thirlmere Unit is a ‘step-down’ unit, where service users are encouraged to be more independent within the home. Willowbeck hosts a full-time registered physiotherapist and therapy assistant in a therapy room, which is fully equipped for a large range of exercises and multidisciplinary therapy.
Wood Hill House is another care home, based on Grimesthorpe Road, close to the Northern General Hospital. Part of a family business, it provides a range of care services in its purpose-built modern facility, specialising in care for adults with Alzheimer's, challenging behaviour issues, epilepsy, hearing impairments, Parkinson's disease, complications from strokes, and visual impairment. Wood Hill also comes highly rated from residents and their families, and has capacity for 83 service users. Adjacent is Wood Hill Lodge, another care home targeting older people with specific needs. Wood Hill Lodge includes similar services with large bedrooms, and secure gardens, specially designed by a landscaper who specialises in sensory gardens.
Burnt Tree Croft care home in Netherthorpe is run by Sheffcare Limited, a not-for-profit care provider, and offers 40 long-term residential care beds, including 18 for the Fundamentally Mentally Infirm (FMI). This home uses a system of key-workers, assigning residents their own dedicated members of staff, who provide individual care plans. With a bright and friendly atmosphere, this home also arranges regular entertainment and therapeutic activities, with visitors welcome at any reasonable time, and family meal arrangements regularly available in the dining room.
